The Oprah-Supsup Connection: Oprah Don’t Talk Like That!

There’s an interesting viral tweet making the rounds, that says Oprah Winfrey said the following about Shamcey Supsup losing to Miss Angola in the recent Miss Universe pageant:

“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”

This quote is attributed to “a report from NBC News” and has been endlessly quoted from and retweeted.

That would be interesting, but like any guy with a woman in the house I must have watched a few hundred hours of Oprah Winfrey in my lifetime and I must say that I ain’t never heard Oprah talk like that, uh-uh, no way, no how!

That quote actually sounds like Filipino English. The kind of writing you’d typically see in a local blog. Not something out of Mizzzzzzz Winfrey.

Or maybe Oprah did say that – an Oprah Winfrey from an alternate universe, Earth #269. On that Earth, she never met Stedman and is happily married to Gayle King.

So unless someone can produce an actual URL leading back to an actual quote from NBC News about Oprah saying this and that – or maybe a news item from HARPO productions, I’m not going to be looking underneath my chair for any freebies.

My theory is that what Oprah actually said was:

“I think Ms. Philippines deserved to win… a new car!!!! Look under yo seats, y’all! Y’all win one!!! Because life is goooood.”

In the meantime, here are some authentic Oprah quotes.

Update:

.

And now the final word from the OWN Moderator on Oprah.com, puncturing the thought balloons of Shamcey fantasists everywhere:
